Shirley Meredith Modell Mitchell

1934 – 2024

Shirley Meredith Modell Mitchell, 90, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024, in Murray, Utah. Shirley was born to Robert John and Beatrice Clara Nichols Modell, on July 22, 1934, in Sacramento, California.

She attended Reno High School and later married Jay L Mitchell, a railroad employee, and lived in a railroad car that traveled across northern Nevada. They raised two children together, son, Mark and daughter, Julie.

Shirley’s employment history included working as a Telephone Switchboard Operator, Bank Teller, and as a Bank Real Estate Auditor. She also generously volunteered with various civic organizations, such as, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice and Thrift Shop and Auburn Faith Community Hospital, as a Lifeline Volunteer.

Shirley enjoyed gardening, travel and music. Her bright red hair matched her vibrant and energetic personality.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters; two brothers; a son-in law; and one grandson. She is survived by her son, Mark; daughter, Julie; daughter-in-law, Cindy; 7 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Interment in New Auburn Cemetery, Auburn California.
