Melba Joyce Kennedy Schroeppel died on March 30, 2025 of the effects of old age. She was born on April 5, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Colin Kennedy and Melba Millicent Nlsewanger Kennedy and lived there for 12 years before moving to Webster City, Iowa due to her father’s new job. She completed junior high, high school, and one year of junior college there, working as a newspaper carrier, a babysitter, in a photography store, as a waitress, a children’s librarian in a public library and as a telephone operator. In October 1950 she met Les Schroeppel at a football game and they became engaged just before he went to Korea with the Army (1951-1953). They were married June 28, 1953 in Congregational Church in Webster City, Iowa. They moved to Ames, Iowa where Les completed his degree in engineering at Iowa State College. They then moved to Marshalltown, Iowa were Les began his career in engineering at Fisher Governor Company. In November 1956 they began meeting with LDS missionaries and were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 20, 1957. They were sealed for eternity in the Logan Utah Temple on June 28, 1958, five years after they were married. Joyce was an active member of the church serving as Primary President, Teacher, Secretary, Chorister, Young Women’s Counselor, Relief Society President, Teacher, and Secretary. Her favorite was visiting teacher and working in the Primary. She enjoyed singing in the choir and did so from her youth up. Les and Joyce served missions at Temple Square in Salt Lake City and at the St. Geroge Regional Family History Training Center. Joyce and Les are the parents of 11 children: Kim Gazaway, Orem; Leslie Carr (Mike), Spanish Fork; Kerry (Kay), South Jordan; Mark (Jackie), Orem; Bruce, Provo; Kay Clegg (Steve), Lindon; Debbie Singson (Kevin), Lindon; Scott (Enedina), Highland; Doug (Kimberly), Pleasant Grove; Gregg (Rose), Delta and John (Tammy), Lindon. They have 51 grandchildren, 101 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her children and family were always of the most importance to her. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Les; their son; Scott; daughter in law, Kay; grandson Nathan Russell Carr, great grandson, Carson Gillman, and great great granddaughter, Colette Clark. Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 7, 2025 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 56 E 600 N Lindon, Utah. A Visitation will be held on Sunday April 6, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and on Monday April 7, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 am at the church. Her body will be laid to rest next to her husband at East Lawn Memorial 4800 N. 650 E. Provo, UT.
