Stuart Edward “Tick” Nelson

Stuart Edward “Tick” Nelson peacefully passed into eternal life on March 22, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on July 18, 1930, to Robert K. and Alice Nelson. Stu attended Provo City schools and later Brigham Young University. After serving in Germany during the Korean War and being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, he married his sweetheart, Betty Black, in 1956. They shared 68 wonderful years together.

Beginning at USS Geneva works in Provo, he worked in the production planning department at Geneva before being transferred into the commercial sales department in Denver in 1964. After 14 wonderful years in Denver where they raised their three children, Betty and Stu were relocated to Salt Lake City. There he was the service manager covering steel sales in the intermountain states. In 1984 US Steel consolidated sales offices and he was transferred to Los Angeles where he retired in 1990.

At that time, he and Betty found the community of Ramona, CA where they met countless friends and had many fond memories. Stu loved his family deeply and enjoyed many summer vacation trips throughout the western states. Stu’s pastime included his lifetime passion for golf, gardening, hunting, fishing, and sports of any kind. He loved watching sports on TV as well.

He was a life member of Masonic Lodge #4 in Provo, UT. And a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was a life member of VFW Post #3783 in Ramona CA. Stu was preceded in death by his loving parents, a sister, and two brothers, and a daughter Susan Lyness. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Betty, stepson Buddy Lynn, (wife Roxanne), daughter Andrea Barnes, 4 grandsons and one granddaughter, and three great grandsons.
