Geraldine Park
Geraldine Memmott Park, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 101. Always known as Jerry, she was born on August 3, 1923, in Scipio, Utah to Robert Lyman Memmott and Clara Thompson Memmott.
Jerry was the middle girl, between older sister Rosalie and younger sister Carol, both deceased. Her family moved to Orem when Jerry was five years old. She attended Sharon Elementary and received a double promotion. She then was in the same class as her older sister Rosalie. She went to Lincoln High School and graduated in 1940. She attended BYU for one year.
Jerry met and married her high school sweetheart, Russell W. Park. They married in November 1941. He proceeded her in death in 2009. Jerry was a loving wife to her husband for 68 years. Russell and Jerry also lost a great-grandchild, Beanna Potter.
Jerry was always a gifted athlete. She was the star pitcher of the Lincoln High School Softball Team. In 1954, Russell and Jerry started playing golf and were charter members of the Riverside Country Club. Jerry was a natural golfer and in her later years, won 12 gold metals in the St George Senior Games. In 2015 at the age of 92, she shot her age (92) at Riverside Country Club, and the Daily Herald featured her in a full-page story.
In 1957, Russ and Jerry opened Park Sportsman on State Street in Orem. The store became an iconic landmark to golfers, skiers and sports enthusiasts, and was the only sporting goods store South of Salt Lake City for many years. While Russ was the salesman and face of the business, Jerry was the heart and backbone of the business, and an exceptionally hard worker.
Russ and Jerry had three children: Judy (Bill) Palmer, Nanette (Jack) Potter and Randy (Jeri) Park.
They had eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. Jerry had six generations living. The Daily Herald featured Jerry and her six generations in December of 2018.
A Graveside Memorial will be held Saturday, March 1 at 1:00 pm at the Orem City Cemetery.
