Jaqueline Rae Peay Johnson Schlamp
Jackie Johnson Schlamp returned home to her Lord on Monday, February 17th, 2025, which would have been her 70th wedding anniversary to Grant L. Johnson.
Jackie was born in Payson, UT, on December 4th, 1933. She spent her early childhood in Garfield, UT (a copper company town which no longer exists) and moved to Benjamin, UT in 1943. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1952, and later, earned an Associates Degree from Utah Valley Community College.
Jackie married Rulon Johnson after high school and they were divorced soon afterward. She married Grant L. Johnson in 1955 and made their home in California, where their four children were born. The family returned to Utah in 1962, and lived in Payson.
Jackie was a gifted musician, she played piano for countless civic gatherings, from church services, weddings, and funerals, to hillbilly hoedowns and hunting camps. She instilled the love of music in her four children, and together, they traveled the Western states for two decades providing the music memories are made of.
Jackie loved bright purple and pink. She loved sparkly, frilly, feminine clothes and jewelry, and she worked hard to keep her closet stocked with an outfit for every occasion. She was a seamstress, waitress, saleswoman, bank teller, chiropractic assistant, office manager, restaurant owner, radio personality, she also helped found the Pregnancy Resource Center of Utah Valley. But the thing that Jackie would most want to be remembered for was her love of Jesus, whom she trusted as her personal Savior.
Jackie always loved to travel, but working while raising her family made it hard to go far. After the death of her husband, Grant in 1991, Jackie found solace in volunteer work. She earned the ZCMI volunteer of the year award in the late 90s, and assumed her dreams of seeing the world were over. However, in 1999, while attending a church function, Jackie met a lost Forest Ranger (Phil Schlamp) who swept her off her feet. They were married June 5th, 1999, and traveled for twenty years before age slowed them down. With Phil, Jackie explored the world, and was received by dignitaries of all sorts in many exotic places. It was the most exciting and joyful time of her long life.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Phil, in Florida, three of her children and their spouses, Randy Johnson of Dillon, MT, Mike/ Ferg (Julie) Johnson of Lemanasky, WA, and Roberta (Frank) Curtis of Morgan UT, along with her aunt/sister, Evva Jean Moulton of Logan, UT, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph (Elma) Peay, sister May Gene/Bubbles McAdams, Husband, Grant L. Johnson, and one son, Steven B. Johnson.
Jackie will be laid to rest on Friday, February 28, 2025, beside her husband, Grant, in Benjamin, UT. Friends may call Walker Family Mortuary (801) 798-2169 for details.
