Callice Elaine Johnson

Callice Elaine Johnson passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born to Bernard Grant Lasson and Callice Fane Lasson on June 26, 1938, in Fairview, Utah.
Elaine was raised on the family ranch in Birdseye, Utah, along Highway 89. She attended school in Spanish Fork, Utah, and graduated from Spanish Fork High, where she was active in 4-H, band, student council, and was a member of the Sapere Aude scholastic club. She loved to dance, was selected as Junior Prom Queen, and was a representative at the Model United Nations meeting. Elaine attended BYU in the fall of 1956, together with her two older brothers, where she met and dated her sweetheart, Howard H. Johnson. They quickly knew they were meant to be together and were married in the Manti Temple on September 20, 1957.
Howard and Elaine first settled in the South Cottonwood area near Salt Lake City, where they purchased a home, and Steven and Bradley were born. Howard’s work changes led them to move frequently early in their married life. First, they moved to Page, Arizona, for a year, then back to the Cottonwood area, where they built a home themselves, and Julie was born. Two years later, just as their new home was finished, they moved to Chicago, Illinois, for six months, and then returned once again to the Cottonwood area. Three years later, after making many new lifelong friends, they moved to Germany, which became the experience of a lifetime. It was there that Elaine battled lupus, which caused her great suffering until it was properly diagnosed and treated years later. Their time in Germany was cut shorter than expected, and they returned to the Cottonwood area, where they established roots, fostered more great friendships, and Tricia was born. Eventually, they settled in Lehi, where they called home for the remainder of their lives.
Elaine was a wonderful wife and mother who was committed to her family, the Savior, and His Gospel throughout her life. She went to great lengths to ensure that her children were taught the gospel, raised in a good environment, and had meaningful experiences and development opportunities. Elaine served faithfully in the Church in many capacities throughout her life, including multiple callings in the Young Women’s organization and the Relief Society, at both the ward and stake levels, and as president of both several times. Later, she was called as the Gospel Doctrine instructor for four years, a calling to which she poured her heart. Her time in institute courses was invaluable for this calling.
Elaine and Howard’s move to Lehi was to start a new family business, Timpanogos Metals. This was truly a joint effort, as Elaine ran the books, was the chief courier, and the principal worrier for the business. This new career became a major commitment for Elaine over the next 30 years and was a big part of the family fabric. Elaine’s brother Calvin and his family partnered in the business for a time, and most members of both families worked there at one point or another.
Elaine appreciated and loved her family heritage, her Lasson family roots, as well as her life and immediate family experiences. She spent many years documenting her personal and family history, which has been a cherished blessing to the family. Elaine enjoyed traveling and spending time with close friends and family. She truly cherished the time she had with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and she loved and served them until her passing.
Elaine is survived by her children: Steven H. Johnson (Diane), Bradley G. Johnson (Michelle), Julie Mansfield (Kim), and Tricia Austin; her sister, Mary Steinkopf; and her brother, Richard Lasson. Howard and Elaine’s posterity also includes 25 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard H. Johnson; her parents, Bernard Grant Lasson and Callice Fane Lasson; and her brothers, Calvin Lasson and Eugene Lasson.
