Paul Carroll

Paul Wayne Carroll, age 85, passed away surrounded by loved ones on the warm summer evening of June 17, 2025, in Richfield Utah.
Paul was born on September 18, 1939, in Provo, Utah to Paul “Bus” and Louise Carroll. He was the first baby born in Utah Valley Hospital (now Utah Valley Regional Medical Center), an honor he was proud of his entire life. He was raised in Orem, Utah for much of his childhood. His brother Lee was born in 1945, completing their family.
He graduated from Orem High School in 1957. In 1959 he was blessed to be called to serve a mission to the Southern States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, beginning his lifelong church service. While on his mission, he served with a companion, Joe Larsen. After both returned home, Joe set Paul up with his sister for a BYU basketball game and the rest is history.
In 1962 Paul married the love of his life Martha Renee Larsen for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple. They continued to attend college as they started their family. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from BYU and later his master’s degree from the University of Utah. He was a lifelong BYU fan, GO COUGARS.
Paul was a devoted family man, his world revolved around his family. He and Martha had five beautiful daughters and at long last the favorite son. They lived for many years in Orem, Utah before moving to Richfield in 1979. As their children grew and married their family blossomed. He was a very proud grandfather to 24 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren with many more to come. He enjoyed visiting, celebrating, and teasing all his family.
He was a writer throughout his life. He started with journaling. His family has volumes of family history, much of which is written in his handwriting. Later in life, he discovered his love of writing poetry. He created several books of his poems for all to enjoy.
Paul made social work his lifelong career. After graduating from college, he taught social work classes for several years at BYU while he worked at the Utah State Mental Hospital. When his family moved to Richfield in 1979, he began to work for LDS Social Services. He retired from LDS Social Services in 2002 after 23 years.
He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had an immense love for his Heavenly Father. Throughout his life he had many church callings including Elders Quorum President, Stake High Council member and Bishop of the Richfield 9th Ward. He loved all he served. Genealogy and temples were also a passion of his lifetime. He loved family history and researching his ancestors. His dedication, research, and temple work connected many of his ancestors for eternity.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Martha, his daughters Ann (Russel) Gleave, Renee Dalton, Melina (Michael) Murdock, Holly (Kelly) Harward, Tracie (Clay) Shumway, and his son Paul Bart (Ivy) Carroll. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louise Carroll, his brother George Lee Carroll and in-laws Rex and Mary Ann Larsen.
His family would like to thank all the special staff at Stonehenge of Richfield for their love and caring for Paul throughout the last years of his life.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at the Richfield 9th Ward Chapel. There will be a viewing Friday evening, June 27, 2025 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at Magleby Mortuary and Saturday, prior to services from 10:00 – 11:30 am at the church. Interment will be in the Richfield Cemetery.
