Robert Elmo Clark
Robert Elmo Clark was born a very healthy 11 pound baby boy on August 21, 1941 to James Sylvester Clark and Vera Brereton Clark in Lehi, Utah.
Bob’s family moved and resided in Provo, Utah. Their farm hill in Provo later became Stadium Avenue.
Bob’s life was full of hard work. He graduated from BYHigh May 26, 1960. He played the trombone, was a member of the concert band, the chorus, and president of the Spanish club, and was an editor for the Y’ld Cat Newspaper. He also graduated from Seminary.
He joined the U.S. Army right out of High School and served 7 years. He also worked that summer doing custodial work at the then called Central Utah Vocational School. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the London, England Mission.
When he returned, he worked for Naylor Auto parts department where he met his perfect match LuWana Simmons. She forever became his “Sweet Lips.” They married July 31, 1964 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
In California, he worked for American Airlines parts department and as a US army cook/café manager. They moved back to Provo where Bob started working for the Trade Tech, soon to become Utah Technical College. It turned out to be his life long career. In 1987, when the school became Utah Valley Community College, he became the Director of Physical Facilities. Bob remained the director at Utah Valley State College, and retired in 2009, after its final name change to Utah Valley University. He earned a deserved “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
He worked at JCPenney and also farmed hay in Payson, Utah. After retiring, he volunteered at the BYU Legacy Hall for 14 years.
Bob made abundant time for his church callings and family. He also served in the Temple for 10 years. He cherished a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Becoming “Grandpa Bob” was his favorite title. He loved each grandchild more than anything. He even went to costly measures to stop swearing for them.
Bob passed away on November 2, 2025 at Spring Garden Assisted Living in Lindon, Utah. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth, his parents, Ves and Vera, and his Sister Betty Francis.
