Gerald Russell Muhlestein

Gerald Russell Muhlestein, 94, of Springville, died peacefully in the early morning of March 24, 2026. He was born at home on June 6, 1931, in Provo, Utah to Juanita Russell and Joseph Benjamin Muhlestein. He married Lila Marolyn Collins in the Manti Temple. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2016.
Gerald served a Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission. He enjoyed serving with people in numerous ward and stake callings, including working as a temple worker. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelors of Science in Agronomy and went on to spend 27 years working for the Bureau of Land Management. Gerald had a lifelong interest in building and fixing things, watching BYU sports, and serving his family.
Gerald is survived by his three children: Russell (Debbie) Muhlestein; Jerilyn (Mark Warner) Brown; Robert (Maralee) Muhlestein; his brothers Milo and Jim, as well as 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife; his son in law, Ralph Brown; his grandchildren Rusten and Ryan Muhlestein; four siblings: Nelma, Elayne, Betty and Keith; and his parents.
He will be deeply missed for his kind smile and welcoming, sincere nature. He enjoyed socializing and meeting new people. He was a tough, resourceful, self-sufficient man who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1965 East Canyon Road in Springville, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Graveside services will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion.
