Velna Jean Messick Echols
Velna Jean Messick Echols passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at home in Payson, Utah. She was born February 8, 1936, in Price, Utah, to Eldon and Inez Messick.
Jean grew up in Utah as the eldest of seven children. She attended Brigham Young University, where she met Clyde Gordon Echols. They were married September 4, 1957, in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterâ€â€™day Saints.
Jean is survived by her children: Lanita (Steve) Adams, Scott (Jackie) Echols, Grant (Theresa) Echols, and Kyle (Rachel) Echols. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 42 greatâ€â€™grandchildren, and 9 greatâ€â€™greatâ€â€™grandbabies, as well as her brothers Don Alan, Raymond Clark, and Bryan Henry Messick.
A viewing will be held Friday, April 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Sunberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 South State St., Orem, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterâ€â€™day Saints chapel, 5237 West 10400 South, Payson, Utah, with a viewing beginning at 8 a.m.
Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial in Provo, Utah.
