August 16, 1941 – April 12, 2026

Mapleton, Utah

Wilda Jean Bascom Tanner, age 84, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by family at her home.

Wilda was born August 16, 1941 in Ballard, Utah, to Venice Manwaring Bascom and Elvyn Ira Bascom.

Wilda grew up in the Uintah Basin and graduated from Union High School in Roosevelt. She attended beauty school in Salt Lake City. Back at home in the summer of 1961, she met Norman Tanner and they were engaged shortly after.

Wilda and Norman were married on October 17, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they lovingly raised six children, who certainly call her blessed. She taught them through her daily gentle example how to work hard, and how to love and serve others well.

Wilda enjoyed working with young children at various preschools and creating fun lessons for them. She also touched many lives through her church callings in Nursery, Cub Scouts, Primary, and Relief Society. She was a prolific crafter and crocheter, and has created hundreds of items for her descendants and others. She made a loving home for her family in several places: Roosevelt, Ogden, Warren, and Hooper, Utah; St Clair Shores, Michigan; Sierra Vista, Arizona, and finally Mapleton, Utah.

Wilda is survived by two of her brothers Kent and Glen, her six children, twenty grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents Venice and Elvyn Bascom, and two of her brothers, Gordon and Dale.
