Betty Noakes
Betty Noakes, age 95, of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026. She was born October 18, 1930, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, to Mick and Elsa Stapleton–the second of what eventually became fifteen siblings. (Yes, fifteen. Betty always said that in a family that big, you learned to not talk or you didn’t get your share at the dinner table.)
She spent her early years in Canada, graduated high school in Shelby, Montana, and earned her cosmetology license in Provo, Utah. She married Fred Noakes on January 25, 1950, and moved into her Orem home, where she lived for nearly 70 years–long enough to know every neighbor, every story and made friends for life.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathy Christiansen; grandchildren Angie Larson (Cody), JD Christiansen (partner Kelly), Cortney Christiansen (Garrett Schoonover), and Dane Christiansen (Anastasia); nine greatâ€â€™grandchildren; and siblings Linda Vasseur, Pat Silvestri, Eldon Watkins, and Vick Stapleton. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1988. And, living to 95, she was also preceded in death by a whole lot of people. We’re certain the reunion on the other side was loud, joyful, and full of stories.
Our family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Summit Assisted Living in Orem, who cared for Mom with the same tenderness they’d want for their own families. We are deeply grateful for the love and kindness she received in the final months of her life.
