Steve was born on October 12, 1953, in Seattle, Washington, to Toshio and Kikumi Hoki. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1972 where he wrestled and played clarinet. As a teenager, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later served a mission in Kobe, Japan, from 1973 to 1975. After his mission, he attended Brigham Young University and earned associate degrees in Drafting Technology and Electronics.

While attending BYU, Steve met Melody Shegrud. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 22, 1978, and made their home in Orem, where they raised their four children together.

Steve provided for his family, working many years in hardware stores, where he learned to fix just about anything. After completing his schooling, he began a career in Electronics, eventually retiring in 2020 after many years as an electronics technician in research and development.

Steve faithfully served in many church callings over the years. His faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through life’s challenges and gave him hope in the promise of being reunited with his beloved wife.

Steve loved music, collecting things, and working with his hands. A man of few words with a quiet nature and a playful sense of humor, Steve expressed his love through thoughtful gifts, acts of service, and time spent with those he cared about.

Steve will be remembered for his humor, kindness, generosity, and quiet service. Steve’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply. He is survived by his four children, Rebecca, Valerie, Christina, and Travis; his eight grandchildren, Damien, Treyce, Kaden, Maddy, Jack, Tayson, Milo, and Maxwell.
