Sherilyn Black Murdock
1953 – 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sherilyn Black Murdock (73) on August 17, 2026, in St. George, Utah. She was born on April 7, 1953, in Oakland, California. She was adopted at 2 months of age by Cline Black and Flora Jorgenson Black and later sealed to them.
Sheri attended schools in northern California and graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1970. She attended Diablo Valley Junior College in Concord, California for two years before transferring to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. While at BYU she met and married Robert Murdock on July 5, 1973, in the Provo Utah Temple. At the time of her husband’s passing in December 2018, they had been married for over 45 years.
She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1974 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught first grade at Sharon Elementary School in Orem, Utah for four years before stopping work to become a stay-at-home mother for her three children. During that time, she owned and operated Busy Bodies Day Care from her home. She also worked in the Customer Service Department of Mervyn’s and worked as an Optician for an optometrist office in Fullerton, California.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and love for the gospel. She served as a Young Women’s Advisor, Homemaking Counselor and Relief Society President and other various callings. Her favorite place to be was serving in the temple. She always looked for ways to be of help or service to others.
She also loved to shop … especially for clothes and home decorations. She loved to bake and spend time with her family. She loved spending one on one time with each of her children and grandchildren and showing how much each was loved by her. Sheri was always supportive of her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
She is survived by her three children and 12 grandchildren; Lacey (Barry) Fuller of Elk Ridge, Utah, Scott (Mary) Murdock of St. George, Utah, and Jeremy (Brieann) Murdock of Prescott, her siblings Tom (Ruth) Black of Arlington, Texas and Rick (Jill) Black of Sandy, Utah.
