Mary Ann spent her formative years in Ogden, Farmington, American Fork and Taylorsville, and graduated from Granite High School. Growing up in Farmington, she loved riding the bumper cars at Lagoon where her mother worked. She also loved to spend time with her father, and he taught her to fish using a willow stick, string, bent pin and a grasshopper. Her father passed away when she was 9 years old, and she loved to reflect upon the memories she shared with him.

Mary Ann loved to play house and would sew clothes for her dolls (and her cats). This was the beginning of a lifelong love of sewing, and she developed into a master seamstress, even expertly designing and sewing her own wedding dress. Some of her favorite memories of her childhood were riding her bike with her sisters to the Jordan River canal and having picnics on the shore. As Mary Ann got older, she loved to play games and invited anyone who stopped by to play a game of Dominoes or Five Crowns.

Mary Ann attended Utah State University, where she met Leon Edwin Orme. After a delightful courtship, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on September 11, 1952. Mary Ann and Leon enjoyed a loving 70-year union, full of service and adventure.

Mary Ann worked diligently throughout their early marriage to support their young family while Leon obtained his Ph.D. While pursuing Leon’s education at Utah State University, as well as the University of Tennessee and Michigan State University, they were blessed with many enduring and treasured friendships.

Home was where Mary Ann’s heart resided, and her family was always her priority. Her greatest joy was her family. She was the quintessential hostess and a wonderful cook, and everyone loved her homemade rolls. She devoted her life to raising her 5 children and supporting her husband in his many educational endeavors and church callings. Mary Ann was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. The family parties she planned during the summer months and for every holiday were not to be missed! This family time is a cherished memory, which bound her family together in love.

Mary Ann was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she lived an exemplary life of dutiful service. She served the Church in several capacities, including many dedicated years of service in the Relief Society. She was a natural leader and shining example to students as she and Leon served in several college wards. Mary Ann and Leon served for many years as service missionaries at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City. She often said watching the Joseph Smith movie so many times through her years of service, strengthened her testimony of Joseph Smith and the restored gospel.

One of Mary Ann’s favorite scriptures was Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”. Mary Ann lived this scripture each day of her life. She was always there to support her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She sacrificed everything for her family. Mary Ann left an amazing legacy of love and service and was an example of excellence for others to follow.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Marcia (John), William (Susan), Stan (Marian), Craig (Michelle), Tracy, 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Darlene Maxfield, brother-in-law Gilbert (Carol) Orme. She is preceded in death by her husband,

Leon, daughter Teri Ann, granddaughters Emilee Orme and Kassidy Orme, as well as her parents and siblings.

A viewing will be held Saturday, February 21st from 9:30-10:30 at the LDS ward chapel located at 670 East 800 North, Orem, Utah. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am at the same location.

Interment will be at Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
