Susan Fugal Butler
1956 – 2026
Susan Fugal Butler, 69, passed away on January 9, 2026, at her home in Taylorsville, Utah, from complications of pancreatic cancer. Susie was born on December 15, 1956, to Jeniel Judd and Grant Kay Fugal in American Fork, Utah. Susie loved growing up in a large family and always considered her siblings her best friends. She married and was sealed to Jerald Michael Butler on January 7, 1995 in the Jordan River Utah Temple. Michael was and is perfect for her and they were dedicated to and protective of each other for 31 years. They look forward to eternity together. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a great love for temples and the scriptures. She served as a full-time missionary in the Italy Milan Mission from 1978 to 1979. Serving a mission was a goal she had from childhood.
Susie graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1975. She attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, where she studied music and business. She worked for various companies over the years as an executive assistant or office manager and felt appreciated by her employers for her talents and contributions. It was a very rewarding career. Along with her sisters, Susie was taught to sew by her mother and was able to make her own clothing from her early teenage years. She later ventured into sewing for others and over the years designed and made everything from simple articles to pageant costumes and wedding dresses. Susie loved choral music and sang in choirs from grade school to college. She sang in The Mormon Youth Chorus and then for twenty-one years in the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. Between her time as a singer and subsequent years as a full-time employee in the Choir office, she was involved with the Tabernacle Choir for 36 years, which she considered a great blessing and responsibility.
Susie is survived by her husband, his children Jeremy (Lindsay) Butler, Brendon Butler, Daniel Butler, Sarah Butler Greyhue, Holly Butler Martineau, and Timothy Butler; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; siblings Lee Fugal, Ruth Fugal, Jeanne Fugal Holdaway, Peggy Fugal Andersson, Ray Fugal, Brig Fugal, Karen Fugal Harbold, Kent Fugal, Lila Fugal Biggs, and Donna Fugal Thorne. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Richard Fugal.
