Joyce graduated from Brigham Young University in 1952 with a BA in Art. She later obtained a teaching certificate and taught in Heber, UT.

Joyce held many callings from Sunday School teacher and family history consultant to stake Primary president. From 1992-94, Joyce and Hugh served as senior missionaries in London, England. For over a decade, they traveled to Boston, MA weekly to assist others in the temple.

Joyce returned to school in her fifties, earning an MFA in Lithography in 1988 from SUNY Albany. In 1996, Joyce and Hugh left upstate New York for new adventures on Peaks Island, ME, where they lived for nearly twenty years.

Joyce was an avid reader and audiobook listener, especially of British mysteries. She was an excellent baker. She loved flower gardening, which she did with an artist’s eye for height and color.
