Snow wins season football opener
Snow College overcame both the weather and its opponent to win the first game of its 2022 football season, beating Trinity Valley Community College 36-14.
It was a rainy evening at Terry Foote Stadium, but Snow College overcame both the weather and its opponent to win the first game of its 2022 football season, beating Trinity Valley Community College 36-14.
The win came after the Snow College Football Team was picked as fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I preseason football rankings. The game was televised on ESPN+.
Last year’s NJCAA National Champion New Mexico Military Institute (169 points, nine 1st-place votes) was named the favorite after going 12-1 last season and securing its first ever national title in football. Ranked number two was Iowa Western Community College (163 points, zero 1st-place votes).
The rest of the top five rounded out as such: Hutchinson Community College (159 points, three 1st-place votes), Northwest Mississippi Community College (149 points, zero 1st-place votes), and Snow College (130 points, zero 1st-place votes).
Snow College entered this season coming off a 7-1 record in the 2021 season. Last year, the team averaged nearly 55 points per game offensively while limiting opponents to just 11.6 points per game defensively.
The Badgers suffered a heartbreaking 30-29 overtime loss to IWCC in last year’s national semi-final game. Snow College will play both No. 1 NMMI and No. 2 IWCC this season, taking on the Broncos (NMMI) in week two of the season this Saturday, Sept. 3, in Roswell, New Mexico, and traveling to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to take on the Reivers Oct. 8.
