Granary Arts invites you to join us at 7 p.m. on Saturday for Film Feast, a screening of “Stop And Go” followed by an in-person Q&A with filmmakers Whitney Call, Mallory Everton, and Stephen Meek.

Two sisters make a mad cross-country dash to save their grandma in STOP AND GO, a raucous road trip comedy for the quar times. #StopAndGoMovie Blake and Jamie’s big plans for the year come to a screeching halt when they are forced to rescue their grandma and her beloved dog from her nursing home. They embark on a hilarious cross-country race against time while contending with a deranged dog breeder, a highly inappropriate 9 year old, and a clueless Romeo, all in the name of family.

Stop And Go received the SXSW Film Festival Selection 2021, acquired by Buzzfeed Studios.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS

Whitney Call Meek (Writer, Actor)

Whitney Call was born in Provo, Utah and grew up in Portland, Oregon. She started writing and acting for the sketch comedy series, Studio C, when it premiered in 2012 and continues to write sketch, screenplays, and commercials. She is married to Stephen Meek, another writer/actor for Studio C. They have three children. Whitney received an MFA in creative writing while writing and acting in Studio C. She, alongside Mallory, wrote the web series Freelancers and Loving Lyfe for JK! Studios, on top of multiple sketch series. She’s refused to take the pandemic lying down and is newly expert at pottery, crystals, and dying her own hair.

Mallory Everton (Director, Actor)

Mallory Everton actress and writer, known for Stop and Go (2021), Studio C (2012) and Loving Lyfe (2019). She’s best known for being one of the one of the four main cast members of Studio C through season 9 and for her role in the Purple Mattress Raw Egg Test commercial. After she left Studio C, she founded the sketch comedy group JK! (where she writes and acts in comedic web series) and performed on NBC’s Bring the Funny. She loves good food as well as writing, playing, and directing feral women. Mallory graduated from BYU with a BFA in film.

Stephen Meek (Director, Actor)

Stephen Meek is an actor and writer, known for Stop and Go (2021), Studio C (2012) and Arcane (2021). Stephen studied international relations, but veered into film after writing, directing, and performing in BYU’s sketch comedy group, Divine Comedy, and later Studio C. He has directed, produced, and starred in many JK! web series such as Freelancers and Evening Plans. When not directing, Stephen loves playing with his and Whitney’s three sons–all toddlers, no multiples. It’s a true circus.

ABOUT THE CURATORS

Jared Jakins is a curatorial collaborator for Film Feast at Granary Arts and is a South African-born documentary filmmaker. He has directed and produced multiple award-winning short films and has worked on several feature-length documentaries, including the SXSW Grand Jury and Audience Award-winning film, Peace Officer (2015). He has served on the jury for the shorts film competition at The Heartland Film Festival. Jakins is interested in stories of cultural intersections and seeks to document images of community and identity emerging from these collisions.

Carly Jakins is the curator of Granary Arts Film Feast and a documentary filmmaker whose work has appeared in The Atlantic and PBS’s Independent Lens. Her collaborative debut, Ghosts on the Mountain, was the short documentary award winner at the American Society for Visual Anthropology and Heartland Film Festival in 2014. Jakins has produced and co-directed several other award-winning short documentaries, and produced the feature documentary, Scenes From the Glittering World (2022). She is most interested in exploring people and their relationship to the places in which they live. She resides in rural Utah.
