Students observed White Ribbon Week at Spring City Elementary School, January 23-27
Because children spend more time than ever in the online world, White Ribbon Week focuses on internet safety. Five days of fun filled activities and messages, gives children the tools to safely take advantage of the wonderful possibilities that the online world has to offer. It also gives cautions about online’s dangerous pitfalls.
“Get Real” is the focus of this year’s White Ribbon Week. Each day, students were presented with daily power boosts: I will use technology to show kindness and respect”; I will give priority to real life relationships”; I will choose healthy activities to handle stress and boredom”; I will choose to balance my day”; and I will remember that not everything online is real”.
Activities were held each day during lunchtime recess. Monday the students sent a “kind text”, where they wrote on cell phone papers and then taped their texts on a poster. Tuesday, they made a pennant banner. Each student wrote their favorite “real life” activity on a pennant. Pennants were then attached to string and displayed. Wednesday, students participated in stress busting activities such as hula hooping, jump rope, coloring, basketball dribbling, etc. Thursday was a ping-pong spoon race. Friday, the students received a Healthy Media Pledge and tic-tac-toe stickers and played a tic-tac-toe toss in the gym.
The PTA has put a lot of work into a very successful White Ribbon Week.
