Lewis and Alta Lynne Rasmussen, beloved residents of Fountain Green, have been chosen as the grand marshals for this year’s highly anticipated Lamb Day parade. With an unwavering love for Lamb Day, their community, and the people within it, the Rasmussens are dedicated supporters of this cherished event. In fact, Lewis believes that Lamb Day deserves recognition as a federal holiday, alongside esteemed celebrations such as Christmas and the 4th of July.
Lewis, the son of Victor and Kenna Rasmussen, has spent his entire life in Fountain Green. His deep connection to the community led him to serve four terms on the Fountain Green City Council and contribute to the establishment of the planning commission. Since his teenage years, Lewis has played an active role in Lamb Day. When the city relinquished the celebration, he joined a committee dedicated to its continuation. As a young participant, Lewis worked alongside his father, engaging in car wash fundraisers to support the festivities. Following his father’s retirement from the Lamb Day committee, Lewis assumed the responsibility and spent numerous years ensuring the success of this cherished event. The only occasions he missed Lamb Day were during his military service.
Lewis attended North Sanpete High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served for five years, including a tour in Vietnam. After completing his military service, Lewis met Alta Lynne Larsen from Fairview, whom he married in 1976. Together, they moved to Fountain Green, where Lewis began his career as a truck driver, owning and operating Wool City Transportation. Following the sale of his truck, he transitioned to working in road maintenance for UDOT, taking great pride in ensuring safe and snow-free roads for the community.
Alta Lynne, daughter of Lawrence and Alta Larsen of Fairview, also graduated from North Sanpete High School. In 1983, she took an EMT class, with the support of the Lamb Day Committee covering her tuition at Snow College. Since then, Alta Lynne has devoted herself to serving her community as an Advanced EMT for an impressive 41 years. Even in retirement from their full-time jobs, Lewis and Alta Lynne continue to serve together, often found side by side in the ambulance.
Throughout her career, Alta Lynne worked as a shipping coordinator at Norbest and Pitman Farms, forging meaningful connections within her role. Additionally, she played the organ in her local ward for 28 years and has been honored to provide music at numerous funeral services.
Together, Lewis and Alta Lynne have raised two children, Josh Rasmussen and Hailee Ingram, although they jestingly refer to them as “traitors” for moving to Ephraim and Nephi. Their pride and joy come in the form of their seven adored grandchildren. They find happiness in spending time together, enjoying the comfort of their home, which was constructed by Lewis’s great-grandfather, A.J. Aagard. Their shared passion for gardening is evident in their bountiful vegetable garden and vibrant flowers. Above all, Lewis and Alta Lynne cherish the moments spent with their children and grandchildren. They eagerly look forward to celebrating Lamb Day this year and hope to see the entire community come together for this special occasion.
