Manti house transformed through Zions Bank’s Paint-a-Thon

By Staff | Jun 14, 2023

More than 80 volunteers – including local bank employees and their family members – transformed the Manti home of Merilyn Jorgensen with new white paint and brown trim.

MANTI — A Manti home experienced a remarkable transformation this week as part of Zions Bank’s 31st annual Paint-a-Thon. Among the 36 homes receiving a fresh coat of paint, the residence of Merilyn Jorgensen, a lifelong Sanpete County resident and devoted supporter of the Mormon Miracle Pageant, was revitalized with new white paint and brown trim.

Over 80 volunteers, including dedicated Zions Bank employees and their family members, united to contribute their time and efforts to this noble cause. Bankers from various branches, including Delta, Ephraim, Fillmore, Panguitch, Richfield, Salina, and Manti, joined forces to create a positive impact in the community.

The primary objective of the Paint-a-Thon project extends beyond enhancing neighborhood aesthetics; it seeks to empower older adults, individuals with disabilities, and veteran homeowners to take pride in their homes and maintain their independence. Throughout the week-long event, a remarkable total of 3,200 volunteers are generously offering their services to clean, scrape, and paint homes in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming.

In addition to painting, Zions Bank employees assist homeowners by providing yard clean-up, pruning, mowing, planting, and addressing minor repairs as needed. Zions Bank covers the cost of paint and supplies, demonstrating their commitment to supporting local communities.

This year’s homeowners have an average age of 76 and an average yearly income of $31,600. Projects selected for the annual Paint-a-Thon event were identified through nominations received from the public, state housing agencies, community organizations, and local churches.

“Paint-a-Thon has evolved into a cherished tradition as we unite to assist our neighbors in sprucing up their homes and yards,” expressed David Warren, manager of Zions Bank’s Manti branch and captain of the Paint-a-Thon team. “As Zions Bank commemorates its 150th anniversary this year, our commitment to creating value in the communities we serve remains at the core of our mission.”

Zions Bank initiated the Paint-a-Thon in 1991 as a volunteer project aimed at revitalizing a dozen homes along Utah’s Wasatch Front. Over the past three decades, Zions Bank employees have selflessly dedicated their summer evenings to painting, with a total of 1,287 homes being transformed across Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. In addition to the substantial volunteer hours contributed, the bank has donated over $1.4 million towards beautifying homes in these three states, making a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals and families.
