North Sanpete and Manti girls wrestling shine over Southern Utah weekend
The North Sanpete and Manti girls teams continued their improvement this season with an impressive showing at the Aviatrix Invitational at Dixie High School this past Friday, followed by the Lady Wolf Invitational in Enterprise on Saturday. Competing in their second and third tournaments of the season, wrestlers from both teams showcased their skill and growth, with four podium finishes and multiple first year wrestlers picking up wins.
Leading the charge was Hannah Perry (North Sanpete), who captured 3rd place at the Aviatrix and 1st place the following day at Enterprise. This is Hannah’s second 1st place finish this season at 190 lbs. Danelynn Castro (Manti) wrestled well and reached 5th place at both tournaments in very challenging 235 lb brackets. Castro and Perry’s performances will help solidify them as top competitors in their divisions, Perry’s victory demonstrated her growing consistency and grit.
Other notable performances include Bree Richardson, a North Sanpete Freshman, who secured a third-place finish in her first ever tournament on Friday, followed by a first-place finish Saturday at Enterprise. Rounding out the success for both Manti and North Sanpete were four third-place finishes: Holly Rowley (Manti), Summer Rowley (Manti), Lindsay Spencer (Manti) and Kynnedy Cartright (North Sanpete).
North Sanpete Head Coach Doug Spencer praised both team’s effort and growth:
“They continue improving from each competition. This early in the season, that is all I am looking for! They take feedback, make adjustments, and look to improve on every match.”
Manti Head Coach Heather Rowley on the team’s achievements:
“These girls are becoming stronger, both physically and mentally. They are accomplishing feats that most never thought possible before joining wrestling.”
This group’s next stop is a home duel at Manti High School vs. Delta. Come support these girls as they put on the first ever ‘girls only’ duel at Manti HS.
This season, the North Sanpete and Manti girls wrestling teams run a combined program and share coaching staff. While they compete as separate teams, every other aspect of team life is combined. Coaches Doug Spencer, Heather Rowley, and Jim Booher coach them as if they are one team and ask each of them to develop and grow girls wrestling as friends and competitors, not rivals.
