Eli Beagley, a construction management student at Snow College, has returned home triumphant after earning a silver medal in the carpentry division at the National SkillsUSA competition in Atlanta. This prestigious event saw nearly 70 top-tier students from across the country vying for top honors in carpentry.

Eli was grateful for the experience in Atlanta.

Eli’s journey to the national stage began in the spring when he clinched gold at the state level, earning him an invitation to compete nationally. The competition in Atlanta was intense, with each participant given nine hours to construct a small building with a complex roof, all based on provided plans. Competitors were evaluated on several criteria including overall completion, accuracy, safety, tool etiquette, and organization.

Eli’s outstanding performance earned him not only the silver medal but also $1,000 worth of new construction tools and eligibility for various scholarship opportunities. Reflecting on the experience, Eli expressed his gratitude: “It was such a unique and amazing experience. The support for everyone was incredible. There were many opportunities for networking and possible career paths. I was surrounded by people encouraging me and helping me know that I could do this competition.”

David Barker, a professor of construction management at Snow College, accompanied Eli to Atlanta and was full of praise for his student’s dedication and skill. “Competition day was a grueling nine-hour day with just one short lunch break. Eli worked hard and impressed the judges. He was also able to make many connections with the best in the business. I’m proud of Eli and am excited to see where his career takes him,” Barker remarked.
