Firewood permits now available for Manti-La Sal National Forest’s Ferron/Price and Sanpete ranger districts

Manti-La Sal National Forest is issuing fuelwood permits and other forest products for the Ferron/Price and Sanpete Ranger Districts starting June 1, 2024, and continuing through November 30, 2024.
The USDA Manti-La Sal National Forest has announced that fuelwood permits and other forest product permits are now available for the Ferron/Price and Sanpete Ranger Districts. Starting June 1 through Nov. 30, residents can purchase permits to gather fuelwood and other forest products from these districts.
Fuelwood permits are priced at $5 per cord, with a mandatory minimum purchase of four cords and a maximum of 10 cords per household. These permits can be acquired in person at the Ferron/Price and Sanpete Ranger district offices, as well as at the supervisor’s office in Price. Office hours for purchasing permits are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
All existing rules and regulations for fuelwood permits remain unchanged from previous years. A valid permit must be obtained before collecting or removing any forest product, including fuelwood, from USDA Forest Service lands. Permit holders are required to stay on designated roads that are open and not muddy, as driving on muddy roads during the spring can cause significant damage. Additionally, the permit holder must be present and have the permit in their possession while gathering fuelwood and must record the number of cords collected until the permit is fully used.
Each permit comes with updated maps indicating where permit holders can harvest firewood. These maps are available on the Manti-La Sal National Forest’s Forest Products Permits webpage, providing detailed guidance for each district.
