North Sanpete High School’s acclaimed drama department is set to delight audiences with their upcoming production of “The Music Man,” the beloved classic musical by Meredith Wilson. Known for its charming blend of humor, romance, and unforgettable musical numbers, the show promises to be a highlight of the school’s theatrical season.

The production, under the skilled direction of Alex Barlow, will transport audiences to the quaint town of River City, Iowa. The story follows smooth-talking con artist Harold Hill, played by senior Ethan Mendicino, who plans to swindle the townspeople by selling them instruments for a boys’ band. But his plans go awry when he falls for the town’s sharp-witted librarian, Marian Paroo, portrayed by Emma Wallace.

A cast full of talent

Director Alex Barlow shared his excitement about the production, saying, “The Music Man” is one of the most classic American musicals and has it all–catchy music, energetic dancing, humor, and heartfelt moments. It’s been a joy to bring it to life with this talented group of students.”

In addition to its charming lead characters, the show features a lively barbershop quartet performed by students Logan Martin, Brandt Lund, Jey Stucki, and Dakson Shepherd. “Being in the quartet has been an amazing experience,” said Brandt Lund. “The music is challenging but so rewarding. I can’t wait for the audience to feel that harmony and enjoy the show.”

For Mendicino, who plays the charismatic Harold Hill, this role is particularly meaningful. “I grew up watching ‘The Music Man’ with my family, so stepping into this iconic character is a dream come true. It’s been fantastic working with our cast and crew, and I think audiences will love the energy we’re bringing to the stage,” he said.

Emma Wallace, who plays Marian, is eager to showcase the show’s deeper themes. “I’m excited to show people the power of music and how gratitude can soften even the hardest of hearts,” Wallace shared.
