Fairview Art Museum hosts open house for quilter Lois Anderson
Lois says that working on her quilts is calming and peaceful and brings her much joy.
The Fairview Art Museum is proud to present an Open House for renowned quilter Lois Anderson, showcasing her stunning collection of quilts. The event will take place on Sept. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the museum located at 85 North and 100 East in Fairview. This special exhibit will continue to run through Oct. 5, offering visitors a chance to view these intricate works of art.
Lois Anderson hails from Castle Dale, where her love for sewing began at a young age. Taught by her mother and aunt, Lois quickly developed a passion and skill for the craft. She later attended Snow College, where she met her husband, Corey, whose family has been in the sheep business for five generations. Together, they raised seven children in sheep camps, and Lois took on the task of making all their clothes, including denim Levis!
In the mid-1990s, Lois’s sewing machine wore out, prompting her to purchase an embroidery machine. This new tool allowed her to explore the world of quilting. While she started with a few classes to learn the basics, Lois soon found inspiration from online sources, quilt displays, and specialized programs for her machine. Each quilt she creates showcases her unique color combinations and creative designs, making every piece a distinctive work of art. Her exceptional embroidery skills are evident in the detailed patterns that adorn her quilts.
Initially, Lois made quilts for each of her children as they married. More recently, she has taken on the task of creating quilts for her 32 grandchildren, presenting each grandchild with a quilt on their wedding day. Lois finds peace and joy in quilting, describing the process as calming and fulfilling.
The Fairview Art Museum invites everyone to come and celebrate Lois Anderson’s artistry at the Open House. This is a wonderful opportunity to admire the beauty and craftsmanship of her quilts and to appreciate the dedication and passion she puts into each piece. Don’t miss this chance to experience the warmth and creativity of Lois Anderson’s work.
