RICHFIELD — Great Basin Seed was honored as Sanpete County’s 2025 Business of the Year during the R6 Regional Council’s 36th Annual Recognition Banquet, held Dec. 3 in Richfield. The award was presented by Sanpete County Commissioner Mike Bennett, recognizing the company’s contributions to the local economy and its role in strengthening agriculture and business in Sanpete County.

The annual banquet brings together leaders and businesses from across the six-county R6 region to celebrate excellence in economic and community development. This year’s event was officiated by Sanpete County Commissioner Scott Bartholomew, who serves as chair of the R6 Regional Council Board.

Great Basin Seed’s selection as Sanpete County’s Business of the Year highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to quality, innovation, and service within the agricultural community. Known for supporting farmers, land managers, and reclamation efforts throughout the region, the business has played a key role in sustaining and improving agricultural practices in Sanpete County and beyond.

Bennett, who presented the award, praised Great Basin Seed for its positive impact on both the local economy and the broader community, noting the importance of strong, locally rooted businesses in maintaining Sanpete County’s rural heritage and economic stability.

Great Basin Seed was one of six county-level businesses recognized during the banquet. Businesses from Juab, Millard, Piute, Sevier, and Wayne counties were also honored for their outstanding contributions.

In addition to the business awards, the evening included several Regional Recognition Awards presented by R6 Executive Director Travis Kyhl, honoring individuals and organizations for their dedication to community service, regional collaboration, and long-term impact. The banquet also marked a leadership transition within the R6 Regional Council, with Commissioner Bartholomew concluding his term as chair and Commissioner Greg Jensen of Sevier County assuming the role.

The R6 Regional Council, formerly known as the Six County Association of Governments, hosts the recognition banquet annually. The council is made up of commissioners and mayors from Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier and Wayne counties, working together to support economic development, infrastructure, and quality of life throughout central Utah.

Local officials said recognizing businesses like Great Basin Seed underscores the value of entrepreneurship and community investment in sustaining Sanpete County’s economy and ensuring a strong future for the region.
