Closure Order Issued for Lake Fork Canyon Area on Manti-La Sal National Forest
The Price Ranger District of the Manti-La Sal National Forest has issued a new closure order for the Lake Fork Canyon Area, effective from February 10, 2025, through September 30, 2025. The closure, designated as Order Number #04-10-3-25-01, is intended to protect public safety and facilitate ongoing road repairs in the region.
Under the new order, the use of motor vehicles and trailers on the affected road is prohibited, except for day use by high-clearance vehicles without attached trailers, per 36 CFR § 261.54 (a). Additionally, camping in the designated area is not allowed, as outlined in 36 CFR § 261.58(e). The restrictions aim to prevent safety hazards caused by rugged road conditions and flooding risks.
The Lake Fork Canyon area is located off Highway 89 and accessed by Forest Service Road #070 on the Sanpete Ranger District. The region suffered significant flood damage in the spring of 2023, which resulted in washed-out roads and altered water pathways. Engineering and road crews have been working diligently to rebuild the infrastructure and will continue these efforts throughout 2025.
The closure order applies to all National Forest System (NFS) lands within 300 feet on either side of NFS Road #50070 (Lake Fork Canyon Road), extending from the NFS Boundary in Lake Fork Canyon to its intersection with NFS Road #50006 (Dairy Fork Road). Dispersed campsites within this area are also included in the closure. Violators of the order will be subject to enforcement actions.
