This summer, the spotlight shines brightly on Sanpete County’s young talent as more than 80 local youth, ages 8 to 18, take center stage in a lively production of “Honk! Jr.,” a delightful musical adaptation of the classic tale “The Ugly Duckling.”
Performances will be held at Manti High School on Saturday, June 14, at 4 and 7 p.m., with encore performances on Monday, June 16, at the same times. With a cast and crew drawn from all across Sanpete County, the production promises to be one of the highlights of the summer.
Sponsored by Ephraim Recreation and Manti High School, this high-energy musical camp brings kids together not just to perform, but to learn, grow, and have fun while working as a team. Their hard work culminates in a charming, laugh-filled show that carries a powerful message about self-acceptance and celebrating differences.

Featuring music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe — the award-winning duo behind “Mary Poppins” on Broadway — “Honk! Jr.” follows the journey of Ugly, a misunderstood duckling who doesn’t quite fit in with his feathered siblings. As he searches for his place in the world, Ugly encounters an array of colorful characters, including a cunning cat, a wise old bullfrog, and a kindly swan. Along the way, he discovers that being different might just be his greatest strength.
“This show is a joy to watch and even more fun to perform,” said one camp director. “It’s witty, it’s heartwarming, and it gives these kids a chance to shine in front of their families, friends, and neighbors.”
Admission is affordably priced at just $5 per person, or $20 for an immediate family group. Children 3 and under get in free. All proceeds from ticket sales and concessions will go directly to support the Manti High School Choir Department, helping fund future music and performance opportunities for local students.
