Casino Star Theatre opens 21st season with free Nathan Spenser Trio Concert

By Staff | Oct 1, 2025

Nathan Spenser Trio kicks off the Casino Star Theatre’s 21st Season with a free concert of Americana folk music on October 6th in Gunnison

The historic Casino Star Theatre will open its 21st season of live performances with a free concert featuring the Nathan Spenser Trio on Monday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.

Audiences can expect an evening rich with the sounds of Americana, country, blues and folk music inside the beautifully restored 1913 theatre.

Nathan Spenser, a Salt Lake City native known for his bluesy, old-soul voice and engaging stage presence, leads the trio. He will be joined by Bill Cronkrite on electric guitar and Tommy Mortensen on upright bass. Together, the group has built a reputation for performances that flow effortlessly from toe-tapping Americana to soulful, blues-infused ballads.

As part of the Casino Star’s educational outreach program, the trio will also perform earlier in the day for students at Gunnison Valley Elementary School, giving local children the chance to experience live, professional music in their own community.

For more than a decade, the Casino Star Theatre has partnered with Excellence in the Community, a Utah arts nonprofit, to co-present concerts and bring live music into classrooms. This collaboration has introduced dozens of professional artists to Central Utah audiences and inspired local students through school performances.

The Casino Star Theatre Foundation, founded in 2004, is dedicated to preserving the theatre’s historic building while presenting quality arts and entertainment. Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has restored the theatre, added modern technology, and hosted an array of events–from concerts and plays to film festivals and educational programs.

After celebrating its 20th anniversary last year, the Foundation is looking ahead with renewed momentum. Free admission to the season-opening concert is made possible through the support of community partners and donors who share the theatre’s vision of keeping live performance accessible in Central Utah.

The rest of the 2025 live season will feature:

  • Alex Boyé, powerhouse vocalist – Oct. 24-25
  • Bar D Wranglers, western harmony group – Nov. 8
  • Vocalocity, renowned vocal ensemble – Dec. 1

Tickets for these performances are available now at www.casinostartheatre.com.
