‘Adopt a statue’ donation opportunity offered to help fund veterans memorial

An artist’s rendering of the new North Sanpete Veterans Memorial is shown. Donations are being sought to help fund creation of the memorial’s six statues, which will represent members of the armed forces and a nurse.
A new opportunity is now available to Sanpete County residents wanting to memorialize a loved one who served in the armed forces.
A committee in Mt. Pleasant is working to raise money to create the new North Sanpete Veterans Memorial, which will be placed at the south end of Mt. Pleasant’s Main Street. Land has been obtained for the memorial, more than $130,000 has been raised and commitments made for in-kind donations for the memorial’s construction, but more donations are needed to cover creation of the six statues that will be central to the memorial.
The memorial will include five statues representing soldiers from five branches of military service: the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines and the National Guard. It will also include a statue of a nurse to honor the service rendered by those who have cared for injured soldiers.
Jeremy Hooley, a Lehi sculptor, has been chosen to create the statues. Bull Keisel, chair of the committee organized to create the memorial, said Hooley has agreed to offer an “adopt a statue” opportunity to the public: for a $34,000 donation — the cost of one statue in the memorial — Hooley will sculpt a face on that statue of the donor’s choice, whether it be themselves or a loved one who served or who they want to honor.
Those interested in sponsoring a statue or making a donation of any kind toward the memorial can do so by contacting Bull Keisel at 435-262-0107.
A concert event featuring the band Phat in the Fire will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, as a fundraiser for the North Sanpete Veterans Memorial. It will begin at 5 p.m. at the Contoy Arena, 995 W. 1000 South, Mt. Pleasant, and continue until 9 p.m. The band will perform and there will also be food, dancing and a drawing for prizes.
The event is free, but donations will be accepted for the memorial during the evening.
