Volunteers needed to keep Ephraim’s Scandinavian Heritage Festival alive

By Staff | Sep 17, 2025

An integral part of the Scandinavian Festival, in Ephraim May 26-27, is a celebration of pioneer crafts. This year an Old Crafters’ Village will return with artisans demonstrating and selling some of what are almost-forgotten handicrafts in the Ephraim Square, 90 North Main.

For generations, the Scandinavian Heritage Festival has been one of Ephraim’s signature events — a lively celebration of music, food, crafts, and entertainment that honors the early Scandinavian pioneers who helped shape the Sanpete Valley. Each spring, thousands gather in Ephraim to enjoy this beloved tradition.

But this community treasure doesn’t run itself — and organizers are putting out a call for volunteers to keep it going strong.

This year marks an exciting milestone as the festival officially forms a Scandinavian Heritage Festival Board of Directors. The new board will consist of seven to nine individuals who will guide the planning and execution of the festival in 2026 and beyond.

“We want to make sure this tradition continues for years to come,” organizers said. “But we can’t do it without the help of committed community members willing to share their time and talents.”

Opportunities for every interest

Board members and subcommittee volunteers will help with everything from entertainment and marketing to athletic events, education, sponsorships, and logistics. The goal is to share the workload by creating smaller, focused roles that make participation easier and more enjoyable.

Organizers encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to apply — including business owners, Snow College faculty and students, Chamber of Commerce members, church and civic groups, and anyone who loves the festival and wants to see it thrive.

What’s involved

Board members will:

  • Attend monthly meetings (except July and August)
  • Serve on at least one key committee
  • Help coordinate volunteers and oversee activities during festival days
  • Work with others to bring fresh ideas and energy to the event

Board positions are volunteer-based with a three-year term and the possibility of reappointment.
