Cornhole tournament set as final fundraiser for North Sanpete Veterans Memorial
A cornhole tournament at the Contoy Arena in Mt Pleasant will be the final fundraiser for the North Sanpete Veterans Memorial.
MT. PLEASANT — A fun and family-friendly cornhole tournament next month will mark the final major fundraiser for the North Sanpete Veterans Memorial, a project years in the making for the local community.
The indoor, rain-or-shine event will be held Saturday, May 9, at Contoy Arena. Doors open at 10 a.m., with tournament play beginning at 11 a.m.
Organizers say the tournament is designed to bring the community together one last time in support of the memorial, which is nearing completion. Players of all skill levels are invited to participate, with prizes awarded to first-, second-, and third-place finishers.
Registration is $25 per person, with all proceeds going directly to the North Sanpete Veterans Memorial Fund. Participants are encouraged to pre-register, though walk-ups are welcome and can pay at the door with cash or card.
Food and refreshments will also be available for purchase during the event, with a concession stand operated by Mardell Kitchen.
The memorial itself will be located at the intersection of Hawk Boulevard and State Street in Mt. Pleasant and represents a significant community effort. Dozens of local veterans and residents, along with businesses from both within and outside Sanpete County, have contributed time and donations to bring the project to life.
For those unable to attend the tournament, donations are still being accepted through Mt. Pleasant City Hall or the city’s website.
Community members can also participate in a more personal way by purchasing commemorative brick pavers. Each $100 brick will be custom engraved with the name of a veteran and placed at the memorial site, creating a lasting tribute to those who have served.
The North Sanpete Veterans Memorial is scheduled to be formally dedicated on Independence Day, Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 4 p.m. The ceremony is expected to include Spencer Cox, a Sanpete County native.
With the dedication coinciding with the nation’s 250th anniversary, organizers say the memorial stands as a fitting tribute to generations of service members who have defended the country and its freedoms.
As the project enters its final phase, the upcoming cornhole tournament offers residents one last opportunity to contribute while enjoying a day of friendly competition and community spirit.
