Set sail for an unforgettable theatrical adventure as Youth Leaders for America, a local homeschool community, brings a bold and imaginative twist to one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays
FAIRVIEW — A classic Shakespearean tale will take on a bold new look this month as local students bring high-seas adventure to the stage.
Youth Leaders for America, a homeschool community group, will present a pirate-themed adaptation of “The Tempest” this April, featuring a cast of young performers ages 12 to 18. The production promises a fresh and imaginative take on one of William Shakespeare’s most enduring works.
Performances will be held at the Fairview Peterson Dance Hall on Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This condensed version of “The Tempest” runs approximately one hour and 15 minutes, offering a family-friendly introduction to the classic story while keeping audiences engaged from start to finish.
The play follows Prospero, a powerful sorcerer and the rightful duke, who has been stranded on a mysterious island with his daughter, Miranda. Through magic and strategy, Prospero creates a storm that shipwrecks his enemies, setting into motion a story of betrayal, revenge, forgiveness, and ultimately redemption. Along the way, audiences encounter a colorful cast of characters, including playful spirits, stranded nobles, and comedic plotters.

The production also serves as a community fundraiser, with all proceeds going toward supporting youth education in the area. Attendees can enjoy a full experience with tasty concessions, themed souvenirs, candy grams, and even a fun pirate photo opportunity—so plan to arrive early and join in the festivities.
In this unique adaptation, the traditional setting is reimagined with a pirate theme, adding an extra layer of adventure and excitement to the timeless narrative.
Beyond the performance itself, the event also serves as a community fundraiser, with all proceeds going toward supporting youth education initiatives in the area. Attendees can expect more than just a show, with concessions, themed souvenirs, candy grams, and a pirate photo opportunity all part of the experience.
Tickets will be available at the door for $8 per person or $20 per family (up to four people). Doors open 30 minutes before each performance.
Organizers encourage the community to come out and support these dedicated young actors as they bring energy, creativity, and heart to the stage in this spirited retelling of a literary classic.
