Community events in Sanpete County kick off the summer season
• Saturday May 9th- a TEEN Color Throw Dance will be held at Mt Pleasant City soccer field from 7PM to 9PM.
The ultra warm weather in early March felt like Spring. After early March’s false start temperatures are now in the normal range for this time of the year, and we are welcoming the change of the season for what seems like the second time this year.
As May begins events in Sanpete County become more frequent. We kick off the season with:
- May 9 — The Cornhole Tournament at the Contoy Arena, fun for the whole family, starts at 11 a.m., with arena doors opening at 10 a.m. This is the final fundraiser for the North Sanpete Veterans Memorial which is scheduled to be dedicated on July 4. All proceeds from the $25 Cornhole Tournament entrance fee go to the North Sanpete Veterans Memorial fund. The Contoy Arena is at 995W 1000S, Mt. Pleasant.
- May 9 — a TEEN Color Throw Dance will be held at Mt. Pleasant City soccer field from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The color throw will take place at 8:30 p.m. This is a free event for teens ages 14 to 18.
- May 16 — Mt. Pleasant VFW Post 9276 hosts a USA Flag Retirement Ceremony at 10 a.m. Bring your old, damaged and retired flags to the Mt. Pleasant City Park barn fire pit where veterans will conduct a ceremony of honor for the retired USA flags.
- All season long — Sleep In Heavenly Peace’s Sanpete County chapter builds sturdy beds for kids needing a bed of their own. The organization provides beautiful handmade beds with all the bedding to local children free of charge. They are currently asking for donations of twin sheet sets to complete bedding ensembles for the kids. Contact Ramerez@imail.org for more information on donating bedding or donating time to the effort.
- Week of June 8 to 14 — Gov. Cox has announced Family Connection Week from June 8 until June 14, encouraging families across Utah to celebrate by dedicating time reconnecting through meaningful, screen-free activities. “This special week encourages families to be fully present with one another to create lasting memories and stronger bonds”. “Families are encouraged to find a day and time that works for them and participate in activities focused on building connections, like preparing a meal and eating together, going on a hike, or playing a game together.” For a list of activity ideas, including events happening all over the state, visit utah.gov.
