Utah Art Education Association honors Ephraim professor for leadership and impact

EPHRAIM — Snow College art professor Brad Taggart has been named the 2026 Higher Educator of the Year by the Utah Art Education Association, earning statewide recognition for his leadership and dedication to art education.

The prestigious award honors outstanding higher education professionals who demonstrate exceptional commitment, innovation and impact in advancing arts learning. Taggart was selected by fellow art educators across Utah in recognition of his meaningful contributions to students, mentorship within the field, and continued efforts to strengthen arts education statewide.

For Snow College and the Ephraim community, the recognition comes as no surprise.

“We are all excited about this award, but we are not surprised,” said Snow College Provost Michael Austin. “Professor Taggart has been a core part of Snow’s art program for many years, and this award confirms what we have always known: Brad is a wonderful artist and an exceptional teacher who works every day to give our students an amazing experience at Snow College.”

Taggart has long been a familiar presence in Snow College’s art department, where he has helped shape the creative and academic development of countless students. Colleagues say his teaching goes beyond technique, encouraging students to think critically, experiment boldly and develop their own artistic voice.

The Higher Educator of the Year award recognizes educators whose dedication significantly advances the field of art education. According to the Utah Art Education Association, recipients are selected based on professional excellence, service to the arts community, and measurable impact on students and peers.

In addition to the state-level honor, Taggart will now be nominated for recognition at the Pacific Region level through the National Art Education Association later this year. Over the coming months, he will work with UAEA leadership to complete the nomination process, representing both Snow College and Utah art educators on a broader stage.

Snow College officials said the award highlights the strength of the college’s art program and its continued commitment to fostering creativity in central Utah.

Founded in 1888, Snow College serves more than 5,000 students across its campuses in Ephraim and Richfield, as well as through its learning center in Nephi. The two-year institution is known for its affordable tuition, personalized instruction and strong emphasis on student engagement.

Leaders at the college say Taggart exemplifies the hands-on, student-centered approach that defines Snow College’s academic culture.

Beyond the classroom, Taggart’s work has contributed to the broader arts community, helping cultivate appreciation for visual arts both on campus and throughout the region. His recognition by peers statewide underscores the influence of educators working in rural communities and smaller institutions.

Snow College officials expressed gratitude for Taggart’s ongoing dedication and congratulated him on what they described as a well-earned honor.

As he moves forward in the regional nomination process this fall, the Sanpete County community will be watching with pride, celebrating a local educator whose passion for art continues to inspire creativity, critical thinking and artistic excellence among his students.
