Snow College Fine Arts brings a full month of music, theatre and art to Sanpete County

EPHRAIM — Spring is shaping up to be an exciting season at Snow College as the Fine Arts Division and the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts present a dynamic lineup of concerts, theatre productions, art exhibits and special events throughout the month.
From inspiring sacred music and Broadway-caliber theatre to jazz, rock, improv comedy and visual arts, there is something on the calendar for every member of the community.
A powerful musical tribute: ‘The Redeemer’
The month opens with a moving spiritual event as “The Redeemer” comes to Ephraim for a special performance on March 16 at 7 p.m. in the Jorgensen Concert Hall.
This powerful musical tribute to the life of Jesus Christ features Grammy-nominated violinist Jenny Oaks Baker and acclaimed composer Kurt Bestor, joined by an elite cast of soloists. A highlight of the evening will be the participation of the Snow College and Institute Choirs alongside the Sanpete Community Orchestra, creating a rich and majestic sound that blends world-class artistry with local talent.

‘Bright Star’ takes the stage
The Snow College Theatre Department continues the momentum with “Bright Star,” the heartwarming musical written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Directed by Jenn Chandler, the production runs March 19-21 and March 26-28 at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday matinees on March 21 and 28 at 2 p.m.
Set in the American South during the 1920s and 1940s, “Bright Star” tells the story of Alice Murphy, a literary editor whose mysterious past resurfaces when she meets a young aspiring writer. Inspired by a true story, the show weaves together themes of love, loss and redemption through a bluegrass-infused score and emotionally resonant storytelling.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for youth and seniors.
Wind Symphony presents ‘Tone Poems’
Music lovers will also want to mark March 24 at 7:30 p.m. on their calendars when the Snow College Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band present “Tone Poems” at the Eccles Center Jorgensen Concert Hall.
Under the direction of Christopher Nelson, the concert will feature guest flutist April Clayton. The evening promises evocative storytelling through music, as the ensembles bring powerful instrumental works to life.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors.
ABBA Sing-Along brings disco fever
For those ready to turn up the energy, Studio Blue invites the community to an ABBA Sing-Along on March 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Performed live by the Snow College Rock Band, the high-energy concert features beloved hits from “Mamma Mia!” and “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.” Audience members are encouraged to sing along to the disco-pop classics that made ABBA a global sensation.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors. Organizers promise a feel-good night filled with soaring vocals, driving rhythms and plenty of sparkle.
Groove Party 2: A Night of Jazz — free admission
Snow College Jazz Studies will close out the month with Groove Party 2 on March 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jorgensen Concert Hall.
Directed by Sarah Morrow, the free concert features performances by Hard Bop Attack, Flying Funk Machine, Jazz Paradigm and The Big Debut. The evening celebrates the vibrant tradition of jazz with high-energy performances and outstanding student musicianship.
Admission is free, making it a perfect opportunity for families and music enthusiasts to enjoy live jazz at no cost.
Improv Comedy for Just $1
Looking for a laugh? Snow College’s improv team, now known as Badgers in a Bathtub, continues its tradition of spontaneous comedy on select Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre at the Eccles Center.
Established in 2008 and formerly known as L.T.I., the troupe creates entirely unrehearsed sketches based on audience suggestions. Each performance is fresh, fast-paced and full of surprises.
Admission is just $1 at the door, making it one of the best entertainment bargains in the area.
Art exhibits highlight student and regional talent
In addition to performing arts events, several art exhibitions will be on display throughout the month.
The Annex at the Eccles Center will feature Cadience Manchego from March 9-20 and Carlee Whitaker from March 23-April 3.
The Snow College Art Gallery in the Humanities Building will present Polarized: America 2015-2025, curated by Adam Larsen, from March 1-13. From March 27-April 29, the gallery will host Artists in Residence/Works in Progress, a student art exhibition. An opening reception for the student exhibition will be held March 27 from 6 to 8 p.m., offering the public an opportunity to meet the artists and view their work.
Altspace in the Humanities Building will showcase GriffinaMae Peterlin from March 1-13, Mackenzie Justesen from March 16-27, and Miriam Adams from March 30-April 30.
Community members are encouraged to check frequently for additional recitals and events, as dates may change and new performances are added.
Supporting student scholarships
A percentage of all ticket sales goes toward scholarships for Snow College Performing Arts students. Additional donation options are also available, allowing patrons to directly support the next generation of artists and performers.
