Young artist chamber players return to Spring City for special Thursday performance

By Staff | Mar 25, 2026

SPRING CITY — Music lovers in Sanpete County will have a unique midweek opportunity to enjoy an evening of exceptional live performance as the Spring City Concert Series presents its second concert of the season on Thursday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will be held in the ballroom at Spring City Hall, located at 45 South 100 East, and will feature the acclaimed Young Artist Chamber Players (YACP), a talented string ensemble known for both its musical precision and youthful energy.

Founded by the late Jack Ashton, a violinist with the Utah Symphony and a dedicated high school orchestra teacher, the Young Artist Chamber Players has built a strong reputation throughout Utah and beyond. The group is composed of highly skilled high school musicians from Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber counties, each selected through a rigorous audition process.

Every spring, the ensemble embarks on a tour, sharing their music with communities across the region. Spring City has become a familiar and welcoming stop along that tour, having hosted the group multiple times in past years.

This year’s performance carries special significance as it continues the legacy of Ashton, who passed away two years ago. Leadership of the ensemble has since been taken up by his daughter, Alice Ashton Coulam, who now serves as conductor, guiding the group forward while honoring her father’s vision and passion for music education.

Due to the group’s demanding tour schedule, this concert will take place on a Thursday evening rather than the traditional weekend slot, making it a rare weekday cultural offering for the community.

Organizers encourage residents and visitors alike to mark their calendars and take advantage of this opportunity to experience live chamber music performed at a high level by some of Utah’s most promising young musicians.

Admission to the concert is free, though donations are welcomed and appreciated to support the continuation of the concert series and visiting artists.
