PRICE — Visitors to the Manti-La Sal National Forest will once again be able to enjoy campfires and other activities normally allowed under standard forest regulations following the lifting of Stage 1 fire restrictions.

The restrictions will officially be rescinded at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, according to the Manti-La Sal National Forest.

Forest officials made the decision after evaluating current conditions across the forest, including fuel moisture levels, vegetation conditions, available firefighting resources and the weather forecast. Those assessments indicated that fire danger has decreased sufficiently to safely remove the restrictions.

The change means activities that had been limited under the Stage 1 restrictions, including campfires, may resume under normal Forest Service regulations.

While the restrictions have been lifted, forest officials are reminding visitors that wildfire danger has not disappeared and that responsible fire practices remain important.

Anyone having a campfire should make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the area. The Forest Service recommends ensuring that a fire is cold to the touch before considering it fully out.

Visitors should also never leave a campfire unattended and should keep an eye on conditions before starting a fire. The same precautions apply to other fire-related devices, including camp stoves, grills and fire pits.

The lifting of restrictions comes as the fall season approaches and many Utahns continue to visit the Manti-La Sal National Forest for camping, hunting, hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities.

Forest officials encourage visitors to remain aware of changing weather and vegetation conditions, particularly as dry or windy conditions can quickly increase the potential for a wildfire even after restrictions have been removed.
