With events beginning in September and continuing throughout October, the season offers opportunities for audiences of all ages to experience the talents of Snow College students and faculty.

The fall performance schedule opens Sept. 14 with the annual Snow College Faculty Concert. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Eccles Center Jorgensen Concert Hall and will feature members of the Snow College music faculty.

Organizers describe the evening as an opportunity to hear the college’s music faculty perform a variety of works in an evening designed for both longtime supporters of the arts and those discovering Snow College’s performing arts programs for the first time. Admission to the faculty concert is free.

The October schedule brings a particularly busy month to the Eccles Center.

The Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band Concert will be presented Oct. 1, followed by the musical production of “A Year With Frog and Toad” Oct. 8-10.

Based on the beloved children’s books by Arnold Lobel, “A Year With Frog and Toad” follows the adventures of the two unlikely friends through the changing seasons. The musical combines humor, friendship and music in a production designed to appeal to both children and adults.

The Snow College Choir Concert follows Oct. 14, giving audiences another opportunity to hear the college’s vocal performers.

Music continues Oct. 22 with “Rock Bands Live,” followed by String-a-palooza on Oct. 26. The Big Band Concert is scheduled for Oct. 28, and the month concludes with the Spotlight Concert on Oct. 30.

In addition to the major concerts and productions, Snow College students will present a variety of additional recitals throughout the semester. Those interested in attending student recitals are encouraged to check the college’s Fine Arts schedule regularly, as recital dates may change.

A season of visual art

The performing arts aren’t the only attraction this fall.

Snow College will also showcase visual art in September, beginning with an Arts Talk lecture featuring Carl Purcell on Sept. 8.

The lecture will be held from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Huntsman Library Auditorium, Room 101B. A reception will follow from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Snow College Art Gallery in the Humanities Building.

The combination of the lecture and gallery reception provides an opportunity for members of the community to learn more about the artist and then view the accompanying artwork in a gallery setting.

Badgers in a Bathtub

For those looking for something a little less formal — and a lot more unpredictable — Snow College’s improv comedy team is also returning to the stage under a new name.

“Badgers in a Bathtub,” formerly known as L.T.I., will perform select Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. in the Black Box at the Eccles Center.

The Snow College improv team was established in 2008 and specializes in unrehearsed comedy based on suggestions from the audience. Because the performers don’t know exactly what is coming next, every show is different.

The new name and time may be different, but organizers promise the same spontaneous humor that has made the group a longtime Snow College tradition.

Admission is just $1, with tickets available at the door. Audiences are encouraged to bring friends and family and be prepared for an evening of spontaneous sketches, unexpected situations and plenty of laughter.

Supporting student artists

Beyond providing entertainment and cultural opportunities for the community, Snow College’s Fine Arts programs also provide an important educational experience for students pursuing careers and interests in music, theater and the visual arts.

A portion of all ticket sales from the Eccles Center’s events goes toward scholarships for performing arts students. Additional donation opportunities are also available for those who would like to provide further support.
