Letter to the Editor: Setting the record straight

By Staff | Oct 15, 2025

Statement from Dan Rasmussen, candidate for mayor of Spring City

Recent campaign materials circulated in the Sanpete Messenger, Pyramid and in Spring City on October 2nd and 8th contained false and misleading statements about me and my family. I want to set the record straight.

• I am not a developer. I am an educator.

I’ve spent my life as an educator, mentor, and community member. I continue toteach and serve because I believe in helping others succeed.

• I do not own 40 acres.

My wife and I own approximately six acres–not forty–as falsely claimed. The land in question has been in our family for over 100 years, and we plan to keep it in the family for generations to come. There is no intent to sell or develop for sale to the general public.

• I have never received any kind of “sweetheart deal.”

Every interaction I’ve had with the City has been handled openly, fairly, and according to the same transparent public process as any other resident.

• I never made the statements attributed to me in that campaign ad.

I never said, I was running “to control my land.” I am running to ensure that our city government operates with honesty, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and that each citizen is treated equally.

False statements have no place in our local elections. Spring City deserves a campaign built on truth, trust, and respect.

My focus remains on what truly matters: improving our infrastructure, keeping budgets on track, managing growth wisely, protecting our small-town character, and preserving the values that make Spring City home.

Let’s keep this campaign grounded in facts and focused on the future we all share.
