Lynette Madsen Clyde

1931 – 2022

Lynette Madsen Clyde passed away after an eventful life on January 14, 2022 in Mt. Pleasant, UT. Nearly 91 years earlier, on January 27, 1931, she was born to Jay and Elmina Madsen in Anaconda, MT.

Her life was marked by tireless service, an intense love of learning, dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and a passion for life. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy.

Lynette is the oldest of four children. They lived in Montana, St. George UT, and Ephraim UT before settling in Springville, UT.

Lynette grew up happy and busy in the “Art City,” where she was very involved in school and community activities, including drama, newspaper reporter, yearbook editor, Pep Club, Art Queen, and more.

She was grateful for a family that spent lots of time camping in the mountains and even spent one summer in a tent while her father worked on a road in Cedar City Canyon.

Her years studying at Brigham Young University were eventful. She was on the Honor Council, in the Sponsor Corp, first attendant as “Belle of the Y,” and a stake missionary.

Most importantly, she met Robert F Clyde, a young student from Heber City, UT. They were married on June 5, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.

They spent two years in Provo while Bob finished his education before moving to Heber City to work on the family ranch. The family lived in Heber City for 22 busy years.

They had seven children, including David, Tom, Kathryn, Doug, Stephen, Lynda, and Julie. An eighth child joined the family when they included a Navajo foster son, Wilmer Begoody.

In addition to the family cattle, sheep and dairy businesses, Lynette was involved in a variety of community, civic, political and religious responsibilities.

In 1977, the family moved to a cattle ranch in Joseph, OR. In 1983, they moved operations to Connell, WA. In 1994, Bob and Lynette retired to Mt. Pleasant, UT.

Lynette’s life was marked by an intense interest in learning and in enthusiastically sharing that knowledge with others. She taught for many years in many areas, including 12 years as an early morning and released time seminary teacher. Her passion for learning included history, politics, religion, and more.

Bob and Lynette served in the Seattle and Manti temples for 24 years.

Lynette is survived by six children, 38 grandchildren, and 82 great grandchildren, plus three more on the way. Her surviving children include Tom (Glenda) Clyde, Kathryn (Alan) Hadley, Doug (Cindy) Clyde, Lynda (Bill) Boyle, Julie (Trent) Jorgensen, and Wilmer (Val) Begoody.

Lynette is also survived by her sister Nina Egbert and brother Gary Madsen.

Lynette is preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd, husband Robert Clyde, sons David and Stephen Clyde, and great grandson Carson Clyde.

Funeral services are Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the LDS Chapel in Mount Pleasant, 49 South State Street. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with the funeral starting at 11 a.m. Burial services at the Heber City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
