Calvin S. Richins

Good Ol’, Calvin S. Richins, transitioned from this world on Monday, June 5, 2023 after 82 years of living a full and wonderful life.

He will forever be remembered as a dedicated husband, fantastically fun father, grandfather, and new great-grandfather.

Cal played football at Pleasant Grove High and was a Snow College Alumni. While in college, he met his lifelong sweetheart, Pat Aagard. They were the quintessential pair; Cal was tall, dark, and handsome, while Pat matched his looks as a beautiful and brilliant blonde.

They married and had their first daughter, Sonya. Shortly after, they moved to Logan, Utah, where Cal attended Utah State University for business and engineering. After graduating, they moved to Hooper, Utah, and had their second daughter Tifani.

Cal loved being in nature. He ultimately left his “desk job” to oversee the Signalmen crew at the Southern Pacific railroad. Here he was in his element, and he enjoyed spending more of his working hours outdoors.

He was remarkably intelligent and had a very sharp memory which paired well with his unbeatable wit. Known to be a “gearhead,” Cal treasured his cool cars. During his life, he owned many vehicles, including a Convertible T-Bird, Mustangs, Cougars, and more. Some cars were new, but many were bought to be restored, which was a beloved hobby.

His daughters had no complaints about his love for cars because it meant that they always drove the fastest and coolest cars to high school.

However, even though he had an appreciation for several automobile brands and models at heart, Cal was a FORD guy through and through.

Cal was a gentle giant, a genuinely benevolent, compassionate & kind man who would help anyone, person or animal alike. If there was a need for help, Cal was always ready to offer a hand. He was known to rescue stray dogs and bring them home.

His devotion to animals lives on through his daughters, who strive to champion, protect and love all living critters and creatures.

Beyond his enormous heart, he was so fun to be around. He had an amusing sense of humor that made people laugh and feel happy.

After Cal retired, he and Pat moved to Fairview, Utah.

He loved spending time in his “man cave,” embellished with memorabilia from the railroad, books & photos of his life and family.

Cal’s loved ones imagine that he and his brother Karl who also recently passed, are most surely drinking coffee, laughing, and catching up on the latest B.S.while teasing the waitresses.

He is survived by his wife Pat, his daughters Sonya & Tifani, his grandson Dempsey, his wife Raquel, his newly-born great-granddaughter Willow, his brother John and his sister Louise and his two cherished dogs, Rosco and Sasha.

Cal always attended his morning coffee ritual with the old-time locals of Fairview, Utah.

In honor of Cal, we would like to continue this tradition.

We will celebrate with the theme COFFEE FOR CAL on Saturday, June 17, at 10:00 AM at their home in Fairview.
