Claudia Carlston Fossum

Claudia Carlston Fossum, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend graduated from this vale of tears and joys after a long struggle in the family home and in the same bedroom where she was born on March 26, 1946. She died surrounded by her children and grandchildren from complications following a stroke. She is the daughter of Golden and Beth Carlston who were lifelong residents of Fairview, and proprietors of Peterson & Carlston, a grocery and dry goods establishment. For several years, Golden also managed the Winkelman cattle ranch near Mount Pleasant.

Claudia is survived by her husband, Eric, and sisters Sonya (Rogers), Katherine (Moody), Paula (Richins), Gaye (Cook), and brother Dean, as well as 36 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Her seven children are Erika Treharne (Alex) of Salt Lake City, Kurt (Noelle) of San Antonio, TX, Karl (Shayna) of Forsyth, GA, Ingrid Baron (Martin) of Salt Lake City, John (Sarah) of Pleasant Grove, and Jacob (Jackson) of Mill River, MA. Cathrina (Chad) Wray, Fairview, UT.

Claudia was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and actively served in all of its auxiliaries. For several years she and Eric were ordinance workers at the Manti temple; she dearly loved that experience and eagerly anticipated its re-opening.

Traveling and sightseeing were two activities she loved, fueled by an insatiable desire to see everything. Planning and executing road trips were a favorite and a necessity due to living in locations remote from Utah. Hence, dozens of cross country road trips nourished her love for travel.

Although she would object being called an “artist,” her nature was a creative one manifesting through music, art lessons and craft projects. She was fascinated by clouds and would always point out their beauty and uniqueness. A consummate homemaker and friend, she was known for sharing her infectious laugh, delicious baking and warm heart, blessing friends and family.

Those of you who ever received her unsolicited birthday call can attest to her love of service to others. She served on the board of the Fairview Museum as her mother had done, and valued highly the involvement of the community through donations and volunteer service. Her cheerful service will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be held June 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview 2nd & 3rd Ward Chapel (Rock Church). Viewings will be held June 29, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and June 30, 2023 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services both at the church. Online condolences at rasmussenmortuary.com.
