LeGrand Alton Robert Doller (Alton)
1937 – 2023
LeGrand Alton Robert Doller (Alton) was born on October, 27th 1937 in South End, Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape), South Africa. Alton passed away peacefully at Covington Senior Living in Orem on Sunday 5th March, 2023 at the age of 85. Alton is survived by his 3 children, Jason Doller (wife Janine and children, Jessica, Jasmine, and Jordan), Melissa Doller Quin (and children Courtney, Chineade, Liam, and Amy Lee), Kari Lin Doller McFarland (and children Jerrol and Anastacia) and his step-daughter, Shannon Jones Anstead. Alton is also survived by 6 of his 8 siblings, Leland, LaVerne, Alida, Beryl, Robert, and Leslie.
Alton is a 4th generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in South Africa — his great grandparents having accepted the Gospel in 1909 in Port Elizabeth. Alton was baptized on 24th December 1945 in the ocean — because at the time there was no Chapel, and therefore no baptismal font. Alton was a faithful and devoted member of the Church his entire life, and served diligently in numerous callings over the years. While still in South Africa, Alton was ordained to the Melchizedek Priesthood by Elder Harold B. Lee — who was later to become the President of the Church, and Prophet.
Alton and his wife Alma (nee Naude Jones) were married on 28th April, 2000, and were married for 23 years until her passing, on 6th September 2022, 6 months ago. Alton and Alma emigrated from South Africa to the United States on April 13th 2008 and purchased a home in Orem, Utah — where they lived for 13 years. Alton was a chartered accountant and worked for 12 years at Culinary Crafts as their accountant — after which he retired. Each year thereafter, Alton has volunteered his accounting skills at the United Way assisting those who were unable to pay to have their taxes prepared. In April, 2020 Alma suffered a massive stroke — after which she required specialized medical treatment and had to be moved to a long term care facility. After a year, Alma and Alton were able to move to Covington Senior Living in Orem so that they could be together for their final 2 years.
Alton will be buried on Saturday, 11th March. A memorial service in Alton’s honor will be held at 11:00a.m. at 1485 N 800 W, Orem — after which a light lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the ASPCA, in Alton’s memory. Condolences may be expressed to the family at SundbergOlpinMortuary.com.
