Nola Adenne (Slater) Ostraff

Nola Adenne (Slater) Ostraff, 89, passed away surrounded by family. The third of five girls, Nola was raised in a home of music and adventure. As a teenager she was voted the homecoming queen in Star Valley, Wyoming. She was adamant that she was only voted queen because she was the new girl on the block, but all those that really knew Nola knew she was beautiful and kind beyond measure. Nola had a way of seeing the potential in everyone; she made those around her feel like they could achieve anything. Nola married Albert Ostraff August 27, 1953.

As a scientist she firmly believed in the beauty of the natural world. Her faith and resilience continue to encourage and inspire her children and grandchildren. She was a gifted educator and a dedicated mother. When it became clear that her husband wouldn’t be able to work full time, Nola returned to finish her education at BYU. She worked as an educator for seventeen years. In 1986 she was awarded The Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for the state of Utah. She’d spend hours playing Monopoly with her grandchildren, never letting them squeak by on a missed rent. She loved to hike and camp with her sisters.

She is survived by her children, Charlotte, Joseph (Melinda), Mark (Jill), and foster son, Son-Le (Beth), 12 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. In her last days she often remarked how she was ready to go home; she is now reunited with those loved ones: her beloved husband, Albert, sister Lynne, and her parents, amongst many others.

Services will be held at the LDS Red Brick Church on Main Street in Fairview, Utah 84629, on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11:00 am. Online condolences at rasmussenmortuary.com.
