Doris Iona Hill Draper

Apr 3, 2024

1931 – 2024

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Doris Iona Hill Draper, on March 13, 2024. She was and is very loved, and the many invaluable things she taught us will continue to be her enduring legacy.” Her Children

Doris was born April 29, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Enoch Leander Hill and Ferdelia Annie Iona Terkelsen Hill. Doris had 6 siblings. She shared a special bond with her only surviving sibling, her sister, Darlene Baxter of Centerville, UT.

Doris married Robert Dean (Bob) Draper in 1949. They had been married over 73 years when Bob passed away in 2022. They had 4 children: Barry, Tonna, Tammy and Coy- and they were also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren! Doris loved her family more than anything else.

Doris showed her love in many ways. One such way was by how hard she worked at taking care of her family and their home. She often scrubbed the floors on her hands and knees, and she could have won a military award for her laundry and ironing. She led by example and expected her children to do a good job. Her words of, “what’s worth doing, is worth doing right.” is permanently etched in their memories. Doris was a dedicated hard worker at whatever she did. In addition to taking care of her family and home, she often took odd jobs to earn extra money. She later went to work for the Moroni Processing Plant. She was there for many years, and retired in her 70’s.

Doris ran a tight ship, but she also had a very tender side. Her daughter said, “mom could wash clothes in a creek, hang them on a line, cook on a coal stove, cook for a crew of dad’s men, build a fire & did so nearly to the time she passed on. On the other hand, she’d sing to us, play board games, call dad home from work when a goldfish got stuck in the sink, and raised us on doing chores to old time country and Elvis’ music. We loved hearing her laugh.”

A witness for Jehovah, Doris demonstrated love and found comfort and strength in her faith. She had a desire to connect her family and wanted whoever was present to hold hands during prayer. She was very sad when her health reached a point where she could no longer attend meetings.

One big way Doris showed her love was through her cooking. She provided many delicious meals to large & small groups. She worked hard and put her heart into her cooking. Her meals were a feast. She was known far and wide for her carrot cake, potato salad, homemade bread, and the biggest hit, especially for the grand kids, was her Red Macaroni. Red Macaroni and homemade bread. Many people wanted her recipes and each secret ingredient. Her daughter says she knows her secret ingredient… It was love.
