Shirley Marie Lund Sorensen

Apr 17, 2024

1933 – 2024

Shirley Marie Lund Sorensen age 90 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 7, 2024. Shirley was born on November 13, 1933 in Moroni, Utah. She was the second daughter born to James Othello and Petera Daniels Lund.

She grew up living on their family farm during the summer months and at her grandma’s in Moroni during the winter or at her grandpa Lund’s in Fountain Green. She attended school at both Moroni and Fountain Green. She graduated from Moroni High School. She met the love of her life, Don before he went to Korea to serve his country. She worked in the payroll department for Thermoid Rubber Company in Nephi, Utah while Don was away in Korea. They were married on November 20th, 1953. They were blessed with four little boys, Steven, Michael, Randy and Gary. They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah for four years before they bought a home in Sandy, Utah. They were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple on January 26th, 1967.

Shirley was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions, both in the Ward and Stake. She was a Visiting Teacher for over sixty years. Shirley retired from Becton Dickinson Medical Products in the Customer Service Department after twenty-one and a half years with the company. She and Don served at the Jordan River Temple before moving back to Spring City, Utah in 1997. They also served as patrons at the Manti Temple for eighteen months. She and Don were Ward Librarians for over ten years. She was a member of the D.U.P. and a member of the Variety Club. She loved working in the yard, planting a big garden and canning all she could each year. She loved to cook, quilt, crochet, do embroidery, work on genealogy and was just all around crafty. Don and Shirley loved spending time in the mountains. They did a lot of camping, fishing, boating and snowmobile riding with their family and friends. They purchased a home in Yuma, Arizona to have a place to stay during the winter months. They later sold their home in Arizona so they could spend more time with friends and family in Spring City. They loved to travel and see everything that they could. Her grandchildren were her delight and she spent a lot of time with them.

Shirley is survived by her son, Randy (Spring City), sister, Dixie Riding (Hurricane). Brothers, David (Debbie) (Fountain Green), Kenneth (Diane) (Mount Pleasant), four grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, with too many to count that have adopted her as grandma. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Don of sixty-four years, son Steven, Michael and Gary, brothers Hyrum and James Lund, sister Doris Anderson. We would like to thank family, friends and neighbors for their help and condolences, along with Home Health, 6th. County, Missions at Community and Keith Christensen for taking Shirley to her hair appointments each week.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am in the Cedar Creek Ward on Saturday April 13, 2024 with a viewing running from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, prior to funeral services. Interment will be at the Spring City Cemetery. Online condolences at rasmussenmortuary.com.
