Duane Merle Moser

1948-2023

Duane Merle Moser passed away on December 23, 2023, in Mount Pleasant, Utah due to complications of ALS – the neurodegenerative, incurable disease. He was just 75 years old when he died peacefully, at his home, with loved ones nearby. Duane is remembered as a generous, forgiving, kind, loving man of service. He was happy to come to the aid of his family, friends and community and will be missed tremendously.

Duane was born the eighth of nine children, the sixth son of Clarence and Evelyn Moser, on a farm in Riverton, Nebraska on August 11, 1948. He moved west with his family when he was 8 years old to California. He was raised from that age in the small town of Lompoc. His favorite activities growing up were playing baseball, pool, and eating Mexican food.

After High School he met and married Kristine Steadman in December 1968, 13 months after meeting her at the local bowling alley in Lompoc. They were married in the same city at the local LDS church house.

Duane was drafted by the military and served the army in Vietnam during 1968-1970 at which time he was honorably discharged. The young couple remained in California where their two eldest sons were born in Santa Maria. Kristine relocated to Utah with the children a few months after the youngest was born, tired of Duane’s antics. He followed her and they settled in Bunkerville, NV for a bit where their third child was born, and he worked at a local dairy. These were tough years; Duane had an inability to make it home with a paycheck due to his vices of drugs and drinking. After a couple more years they made their way to Magna, Utah. It was at this time that Duane started working at Dill Rental and their fourth child was born.

Duane underwent a radical spiritual journey with began with conversion and baptism to the LDS Church in 1977, deciding to begin walking the straight and narrow path, and culminated when he joined the Apostolic United Brethren in 1979. His faith took priority in his life and as such he was highly active and faithful, continuously serving and volunteering in countless callings. He served as a member of the Sunday School board for years, served in the Melchizedek Priesthood Presidency, AGA Board, and substitute system caretaker. Duane was a stalwart member of his faith contributing to endless work projects, visiting the elderly, widows and sick, and giving his all in any capacity that was required.

Duane was hired by Hercules Aeronautical in 1979. He began working as a janitor and moved up the ranks to eventually become a Rocket Fuel Engineer Shift Supervisor. He retired 28 years later upon successfully completing his career.

It was of upmost importance that his eleven children be raised with a mother in the home full-time. To this end he did shift-work that consisted of one week of day shift, one week of swing shift and one week of graveyards before repeating. He was continually working on the home front when not at his job, instilling a deep work ethic in his children.

In 1980 the family moved to Draper where their next three children were born; these were the best of years for parents and children. In 1986 they eventually put down roots in Riverton where their remaining children were born and raised.

Duane retired from Hercules at the age of fifty-five. He then moved to a variety of jobs before finally quitting his work for the man in 2011. It was then that he built a house and retired to Mount Pleasant, Utah where he resided until his death.

In Mount Pleasant, Duane was at home from day one. He was happiest when working and serving with his fellow brethren. The connections and friendships that he cultivated were unlike any that he had had before. He truly found his brothers, and it was beautiful to see him in this element. Duane was a rock in his family, church, and community; he has certainly earned his place in heaven as a godly man.

Duane is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kristine and his wife of 4 years, Joy; his eleven unique beautiful and amazing children: Jason (Brenda), Brian (Shelly), Kristina, Stephen (Laurie), Trina, Gabriel (Dylerihi), Madiah Amy (Paul), Rece (Chris), Shanae (Jeff), and Shaelle (Shaun). Duane leaves behind thirty-nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at The Cabin (11355 E 16000 N, Mt. Pleasant). Viewings Friday, December 29, 2023, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.in Rocky Ridge (145 N Rockwell Dr. Rocky Ridge, UT) and Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. prior to services at The Cabin. Interment in the Mt.
